I reviewed SGP’s latest mixtape God Of Black on Fact’s website. I feel a bit ambiguous about the tape and SGP generally although I do rate the production and I appreciate the (albeit openly derivative) uniqueness of his sound. I’m sure the ambiguity I feel towards the music comes across in the review - the ‘conclusion’ is inconclusive, to say the least. But then, the middling quality of the review probably reflects what I feel about the tape itself, and about a lot of the ‘bedroom’/blog rap I’ve heard - its interesting, its nice to listen to, but it doesn’t leave much of an impression on me really, or not for long. Its so reflective of one person’s musical obsessions and idiosyncrasies, I think you really have to be ‘locked in’ to get it (or possibly sizzurped to dribbling levels).
